Colbert…Kimmel…WSJ…NYT…Fallon…Myers… The censorship of the German press in the 1930s was a systematic process that began even before the Nazis fully consolidated power and became increasingly severe throughout the decade. Even during the Weimar Republic’s final years, press freedom was already under pressure through emergency decrees and political intimidation. The SA (Stormtroopers) frequently attacked newspaper offices of opposition parties, particularly Social Democratic and Communist publications. The process accelerated rapidly after January 1933. The Reichstag Fire Decree in February 1933 suspended basic civil liberties, including press freedom. This allowed authorities to shut down newspapers and arrest journalists without due process. The Nazi regime established multiple layers of control and required all journalists to be registered with the state and excluded Jews and political opponents from the profession. Part of Goebbels’ propaganda ministry, this body controlled who could work in journalism. Editors received specific instructions about what to cover and how to frame stories. Advertising boycotts and paper allocation controls forced compliance. Many newspapers were either shut down entirely or forced to conform to Nazi ideology. Independent publishers were pressured to sell to Nazi-controlled companies. By the mid-1930s, the Nazi Party press, led by publishers like Max Amann, dominated the landscape. The result was the virtual elimination of independent journalism in Germany, with the press becoming a propaganda tool rather than an independent institution. This transformation served as a crucial foundation for the regime’s broader control over information and public opinion.
This is how it always begins. Kill Kimmel and praise Kilmeade. We are now officially living in a totalitarian state where 20 million viewers are effectively banned from watching a comedian they like because he said something Trump didn’t like. How appropriate that Trump spoke from his social media pulpit from England, the Monarchy we as Americans fought to detach from as we didn’t any longer wish to be subject to a detached king. From England, where he is on a state visit, Trump posted: “Great News for America: The ratings challenged Jimmy Kimmel Show is CANCELLED. Congratulations to ABC for finally having the courage to do what needed to be done. Kimmel has ZERO talent, and worse ratings than even Colbert, if that’s possible. That leaves Jimmy and Seth, two total losers, on Fake News NBC. Their ratings are also horrible. Do it NBC!!! President DJT”. In Mein Kampf and various speeches, Hitler outlined his belief that propaganda should be simple, repetitive, and emotional rather than factual – principles that directly opposed journalistic integrity.
The big question of the moment is where it all goes from here. Americans take their First Amendment rights seriously. In April 2025, a Pew Research Center poll showed that 92% of Americans thought it was important “that the media can report the news without state/government censorship.” Will the tribal cabal disregard all of that and push forward with more censorship or will the backlash finally draw a line in the sand for American and rise up against this obvious dictatorial force?
Drip…drip…drip.
